Hello, our names are Rebecca King (Texas, United States) and Katherine Taylor (California, United States), and we are helping to raise funds for our dear friend Gina Hussein in Gaza, Palestine.

Please read Gina’s statement below, and donate to help Gina, her family, and her cats survive. No amount is too small. “My name is Gina Hussein. I am from Gaza, and I am currently displaced due to the war. Since 2014, I have been caring for the sick, injured, and homeless cats around me. The past two years have been much more difficult. Even now, while I cannot return to my home because it is a war zone, I continue to feed and care for the many cats who have found me. The population is growing and they know I am someone who will not turn them away. When I first began fundraising, food was more available for people and animals. But now we are in the middle of a famine. Prices have become exorbitant. We have no income and no way to earn one. Like most people in Gaza, we must rely on help from the outside world. It has taken me time to accept asking for help for myself. My focus has always been the animals. But the situation is now urgent. I am no longer as strong as I was. I am here with my husband and his nephew, who was trapped in Gaza. His home and family are in Turkey. We are doing what we can to survive. This fundraiser is now helping not just the cats, but us too. I am an animal lover by heart. They are my children. But if there is enough support, we too will be able to survive. We are currently trying to raise €3,247 euros ($3,690 USD) monthly to cover: • Two basic meals a day • Human food to mix with cat food (cat food is mostly unavailable or extremely expensive) • Soap and basic hygiene items • Urgent medications (even basic pain medicine is hard to find) • Wood to cook our food This amount will help us survive for one month at a time. Fundraising is the only reason the cats have been fed since October of last year. It is what I rely on to help them. Now, it is also what I rely on to stay alive.”
Currently, there is a 33% exchange fee just to receive cash in Gaza (as many merchants only accept cash, not digital payment), but there are now places that charge up to 50%. With exchange (cash merchant) fees of 33%, we must raise €4,319 euros ($4,908 USD) for Gina, her family, and her cats to survive each month. This is why our goal has been rounded up to 12 months of survival at €52,000 (approx. $60,000 USD.)
Gina’s donations are transferred to her in Gaza by a family friend, Younis, in Europe. Due to the destroyed banking system in Gaza and heavy sanctions on digital payment platforms, Palestinians are forced to rely on a trusted friend or family member outside of the country to handle and transfer donations.
